how to reach jibhi

jibhi is about 520 km from delhi and 270 km from chandigarh. there's no airport in jibhi, no railway station, and only one road in. here's what each of the realistic options actually looks like.

option 1

by road

the one most people do

from delhi · ~12-14 hours

delhi → chandigarh (nh44) → swarghat → bilaspur → mandi → aut → banjar → jibhi. the road is highway-quality till mandi, then it gets twistier. most people leave delhi after dinner and reach jibhi by mid-morning. volvo + taxi combo from isbt kashmiri gate to aut, then a one-hour shared cab from aut to jibhi (₹200-300/seat), is the cheapest version.

from chandigarh · ~7-8 hours

chandigarh is the realistic launchpad. drive yourself, or hire a taxi for ₹6,000-8,000 one-way. shared sumos from manali-side bus stands go up to aut as well. if you're renting a car in chandigarh, fuel up before bilaspur, pumps get sparse after.

from manali · ~3 hours

if you're combining manali and jibhi, drop down through aut and turn into banjar valley. it's a short, beautiful drive. lots of people end a manali trip in jibhi on the way back, we'd argue it's actually nicer the other way around.

heads up: the last hour into jibhi is single-lane and winding. if anyone in your car gets motion sick, dramamine before mandi. avoid driving this stretch after dark in monsoon (jul-aug). landslides are real.

option 2

by air

fastest, smallest savings

the nearest airport is bhuntar (kullu), about 60 km from jibhi. a few flights a day from delhi on indigo and alliance air. cancellation rate is real, small airport, fickle weather. taxi from bhuntar to jibhi is ₹2,500-3,500 and takes 2 hours.

if bhuntar is full or cancelled, fly to chandigarh and drive up. that's what most people end up doing.

option 3

by train

part of the journey, not all of it

there's no railway station near jibhi. the nearest mainline station is chandigarh (CDG), train from delhi (shatabdi is the comfortable one), then drive. total: ~11 hours door to door.

the romantic version: take the kalka-shimla toy train up to shimla, then drive to jibhi (7 hours from shimla via mandi). it's a longer trip but the toy train is worth doing once.
