how to reach · from delhi
delhi to jibhi
most people who come to jibhi start in delhi. it's about 500 km and an honest 12 to 14 hours by road, usually done overnight. you can shorten it by flying part of the way, but the classic version is an overnight bus to aut and a short cab in from there.
- distance
- ~500 km
- time
- 12 to 14 hours by road, or ~half a day flying via bhuntar
- the route
- delhi → chandigarh → bilaspur → mandi → aut → banjar → jibhi
- nearest airport
- bhuntar (kullu), ~2.5 hours from jibhi
by overnight bus, the usual way
take an overnight volvo from delhi (kashmere gate isbt or majnu ka tila) heading toward manali, and get off at aut, the tunnel town about 1.5 to 2 hours short of manali. from aut, a local taxi runs you to jibhi in around 1.5 hours through the banjar valley. book the bus a few days ahead in season.
by air
fly delhi → bhuntar (kullu-manali airport), about 1.5 hours, then drive roughly 2.5 hours to jibhi. flights are limited and cancel often in bad weather, so keep a buffer. it's the fastest option when it works.
self-drive
doable in a long day, but it's a 12 to 14 hour drive, so split it or share the wheel. the last hour from aut into the valley is single-lane and winding, do that part in daylight.
by train
there's no direct line. the practical option is a train to chandigarh or kalka, then road from there.
one tip
overnight bus plus a morning cab is the sweet spot of cost and time. try not to arrive into aut very late, the taxis thin out after dark.
